Looks like both yaml and json would work, but lacking any strong pro, I think I’m likely to pick XML over both of them. I think the human component of WED is only debug-ability by programmers; a WED file is already semantically complex enough that making one by hand would not be fun. WED’s native format isn’t really appropriate as an intercange format..that’s one of the reasons why SQL wasn’t an appropriate choice (in hindsight).

They’re both text formats, they both have parsers/encoders available in “most” languages, and either of them is a whole lot nicer to look at, edit, or create by hand (if needed).

Regarding airports, would it be possible to change the parking spot selection interface to a drop-down box (a la FSX) to allow more parking spots/gates/stands to be defined? When I try to port scenery over from FS, in many cases just a small subset of the parking spots is brought over. Especially with ATC now in the pipeline, this will turn out important…

Chris, we already did state that the August date was bogus. http://www.x-plane.com/blog/2011/03/lots-of-testing-lots-of-absurdity/#comment-1759

this wait is gonna be worth it, but is long drag especially with silence on any input towards possible dates, or at least saying the august rumor is ridiculous. We fans are flying blind in anticipation for a release that could be may to august? ugggg

Cant wait

Most major airports have taxiways predefined now in X-plane 9!

I mean neither of those things and I am making no statements about our release date.

What I am saying is that, in the past, there has been a lag from when the sim was capable of doing a feature to when there were tools to make it easier to use the feature. Example: it was months from when the new apt.dat 850 came out (it was new in X-Plane 850 🙂 to when WED let you edit the format visually.

So what I am saying is: with X-Plane 10, I think we’ll have the tools almost immediately after we have the sim, because so much of the tool work is being done now during development.
