But refreshing the settings folder involves a folder not often touched by the basic user.

Maybe that alone would be a good option on the updater.

Otherwise I assume manually deleting the output/preferences folder before updating will reset the opening animation and all settings…?

Will the updater delete all your custom folders?

If not, perhaps these could be options on the updater?

I haven’t done a full reinstall but perhaps the above is what people are trying to achieve…
