You’re a programmer…

You heard me say this…

and you concluded that this was similar to when you do a formal written scoped contract with a customer?

Interestingly enough, I’m a programmer by profession… maybe the difference is that I have very demanding customers, and when we provide them with a quote (or an estimation, as we call them), we better deliver… otherwise some people will be very upset (especially taking into account the daily rates around here) ๐Ÿ™‚

Nonetheless, I’m happy to see I’m not going crazy and I did see that you were “hoping to have a beta this year”. And I guess it really is true what I was told in my project management training last year… written text only conveys 20% of information compared to face to face… my comment wasn’t a complain, it’s just that the anticipation is getting unbearable… maybe Vulkan should have not been mentioned at all until you were a couple of months away or so, and a more reliable expected date could be announced…

Or maybe that’s just me ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!
Bruno

My 2080 TI will arrive next Wednesday, I’m not going to change any configurations and after testing, I’ll let you know if I got any FPS improvements here..

Well, the very first version to include our first work in the move towards Vulkan/Metal was 11.30, and it was initially released as a beta in Fall 2018. Seems to me we did and are actually still keeping our promises then! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I guess Bruno talks about the following quote “We are hoping to have a beta this year, but thatโ€™s a hope, not a hard date.” in https:/2018/06/an-x-plane-road-map-from-flightsimexpo/. But I also don’t understand how somebody could make an expectation out of this.

Guess it’s one of those non-developer thing, where people don’t understand the complexity of such a change. Especially with a existing big eco-system like X-Plane has.

So thank you for taking on this endeavor at all.
Christian

Well I definitely don’t want to get in a “who said what” discussion with you here, but if I find one of those early 2018 presentations and road maps, where it was said you were targeting a Vulkan beta before the year (2018) was over, I’ll let you know (but I don’t think I’ll waste time looking for this).

Cheers!

Couldn’t help but chuckle as I sit at my office desk and drink my cup of coffee.

Looking forward to Vulkan, also for the new improved autogen from MisterX’s “Short Final Design”, and that’s it. I think by then X-Plane could not get any better for me.

Cheers!

where does this high expectation towards vulcan come from? won’t have an noticably impact on the user side really, as i understand.

That’s not particularly helpful, is it? Have you checked the knowledgebase, Q&A or contact support regarding your issue(s)? Your comment suggests that X-Plane is not working or usable at all on Windows 10, is that really the case? I have been using X-Plane (in a rather simple setup, I must admit) on macOS, Linux and (more recently) Windows 10 without problems. Do you have a more complex/elaborate setup?
