On M1 Max, framerates are about 15% lower, compared to 12.1.4. At the same time, it feels more fluid (in spite of lower framerates)

Deliberate. The GFX team did quite a lot of work optimizing how data gets to the GPU and light rendering (Tiled lighting). Static descriptors *may* have also snuck in too, but if you can hunt down Sidney (JustSid) on the org, he can tell you more!

I also stress, this isn’t the end-of-the-road for perf improvements either…

Can you comment if this is a fortunate event that just happened or has something been done deliberately to improve things? Whatever the case I hope the improvement remains (I shall hang on to this beta just in case).

They are also getting so sophisticated that it is making it difficult for some older artist like myself and new artist to keep up, catchup and contribute.

I think it will be a worth while investments for Laminar Research to pull all the info scattered around Youtube, forums, google doc, discord, etc and refresh the “Gateway Airport Guide” in the gateway website. This will help to retain and attract new talents!
