Besides X-Plane for iPhone (which I now call “X-Plane general aviation” to avoid confusion) there are now two new apps: X-Plane Airliner and X-Plane Helicopter. The helicopter version uses part of the Grand Canyon and the airliner version uses part of Southern California.
All three apps (the general aviation version has a free update) have a fix in the DSF lower that should help avoid crashes.
Basically while X-Plane used to run under memory limits for the phone, it would temporarily go quite a bit over memory the limit during the DSF load, as the DSF loader would use some temporary memory. The new code very carefully purges temporary memory as it runs, and thus never exceeds its final memory footprint. Before 9.04 there was always a risk that your phone was in a tight memory situation to begin with, such that X-Plane going “over budget” would cause the OS to kill it off. (Rebooting the phone apparently purges memory or something.)
So…this is a long-winded way of saying: if you update X-Plane iPhone to 9.04 and still have the app quit at launch (or right after launch), please send us a crash report!
To the developers of an incredible app for iPhone and iPod touch,
I recently saw a documentary on television that gave me the incredible idea that I know only the developers of the X-Plane app could fulfill. The documentary was on the most dangerous airports in the world and the first thing that came to mind was how cool it would be to experience something like that. So I am proposing the idea of adding another great to the collection of the X-Plane apps (which I have just about all of). This app would include airports such as Princess Juliana International Airport in Saint Maarten, Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport on the island of Saba, as well as my personal favorite Courchevel in the French Alps. I believe this game would prove to be a major success by stepping out of the normal airports in previous apps and into the realm of difficulty. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon about your opinion.
It seems the X plane and X helicopter keep running after I have clicked off it with the back button on my Iphone 4. how do I turn off the game with out turning off the phone?
Does is use more batteries? If it’s running in the background
Double Click the Home Button on your iPhone. Press and hold on app and when it begins to wiggle. Click on what looks like a do not enter sign in the upper left of the icon. This Closes an App.
